Antonio Guerrero es un artista cubanoamericano contemporáneo. Nació en Cuba bajo el régimen de Castro. Creció en un hogar donde se apreciaba y fomentaba la expresión artística; a los 18 años fue reclutado por el ejército y transportado a África para luchar en la Guerra de Etiopía. Ahí se inspiró en la gente y las escenas del lugar desarrollando un interés por el expresionismo moderno.

De regreso en Cuba retomó su trabajo artístico. Buscando mejorar sus condiciones de vida, Antonio se subió a una balsa que, junto con su primo y un amigo, habían diseñado y construido en secreto. Después de flotar durante cinco días en el mar fueron rescatados y llevados a Estados Unidos.

Este suceso quedó plasmado en su obra “Balseros del 92”, la cual fue donada a la Fundación José Martí con el fin de recaudar fondos para becas estudiantiles. En 1996, la obra de Guerrero fue exhibida en Washington D.C. como parte de la exposición “Cubanos en el exilio”.

En la celebración de su 150 aniversario, Bacardí eligió a Guerrero y otros tres artistas para expresar el sentimiento de liberación y apertura del espíritu cubano.

Guerrero ve el mundo como un escenario cósmico de la actividad humana. “Estoy en el sistema como un programador escribiendo códigos con mi cuaderno de bocetos y pinceles… para crear y programar el inconsciente… creo que estamos inmersos en un misterio poderoso y hermoso. El hecho de nuestra existencia es un gran enigma para mí”
