Un artista con una pasión por el surrealismo, sus obras a veces controversiales, contienen mucho significado oculto e interpretativo. Sus obras se vuelven punto focal del espacio atrayendo al expectador a descubrir lo que hay detrás del dibujo.

Sus primeras Obras se centraron en gran medida en temas religiosos.  Esta primera fase de su carrera duró más de 5 años, influenciada por artistas barrocos coloniales como el maestro boliviano de Calamarca, Melchor Perez de Holguin, el artista italiano Bitti, entre otros.  Luego, descubrió la fuerza y el lenguaje del color.  Esto lo llevó a una segunda fase que él llama la fase del “Apocalipsis” y posteriormente, la fase del “Altiplano Mágico”.  Su influencia provino principalmente de Bruegel, Bosch, Carringnton, Dalí, Kahlo y Remedios Varo, por nombrar algunos.

La repetición del paisaje del altiplano boliviano es evidente en su obra.  El paisaje de su infancia y el recuerdo de ese paisaje lo persiguen: es mágico, con gran poder y energía.  Las imágenes en las pinturas de Marcelo son caprichosas, complejas y surrealistas.  Estas imágenes se le aparecen al azar y él las dibuja para no perder el fantasma.

Continua participación en Ferias Internacionales tales como: Miami International Art Fair, TIAFAR Feria International de Toronto Canadá; ARWI International, Puerto Rico; ARTEXPO New York; ARTEXPO Atlanta. Exposición Itinerante “Visiones de un Apocalipsis” en Museos de México: Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey; Museo de la Cd. de León Guanajuato y Museo ExConvento del Carmen.
