Sergio Galán
Born in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico
-
A sculptor with a long career dating back to the 1980s, he is known for his works that evoke ceremonial objects with a vertical aesthetic and pre-Hispanic motifs. The artist uses natural materials and motifs to create his works, which are rooted in the Mayan worldview and its acantes: stones that were placed at the four outer points of cities as a form of protection or surveillance. For this reason, there is something testimonial, totemic, and spiritual about the large figures presented by the artist. Galán works with stone, wood, steel, and glass.
